So, though I keep it up-to-date, I don't use it all that often.Statview 5.0 is a favourite pick some people. The $79.95 crossgrade was the least expensive one, however.įinale is for heavy lifting but it's too complex for song books, lead sheets, praise band arrangements and short choral pieces. They aren't bugs but it doesn't really work for me. I like many things about Notion 6 but there are workflow issues that keep it from being a serious contender for me. I bought Overture 5 as a replacement but it is of limited use only to me until its MusicXML handling is better.

I'd love to see an update but am not holding my breath. I've had Finale and Encore back to the dawn of time, it seems. The only reason I keep up with MuseScore is to see if it ever becomes not crap (still waiting.). MuseScore doesn't do the worst job of it but, for some reason, the resulting files are huge and it's never really right. Apparently, PreSonus has paid close attention to MusicXML 3.0 as well. Since Recordare is now part of MakeMusic, this is no surprise. xml.Īnyway, only Finale and Notion seem to handle lyrics, clefs and expressions properly. I have imported and exported variants on the same test file just to see how each handles.

3.1 will be a major upgrade and expected to be released in a couple of months.īesides having Overture 5, I also have Notion 6, SmartScore X2 Pro, Encore 5.0.7, MuseScore 2 and Finale 25. I know that Michael is hard at work on it (we know each other but I have no special insight on this). If Don is waiting for Michael Good to release Music XML 3.1, I can wait, too. Hopefully, that's on the "things to be fixed someday" list. Either MusicXML 3.0 is not being implemented at all or not completely. Is that due to some setting I didn't find yet, or is it not (yet?) implemented?
I did that sometimes in the Encore source, sometimes in Harmony Assistant. Of course, to have a good interpretation in Virtual Singer, the lyrics had often to be improved. I tried the PDF2Music alternative, but the result is less accurate - particularly the attachment of lyricules to notes was a bit rough.įor the last pièces I worked on, I went back to data input in 4.5 - moving to Encore 5 for score printing when that was necessary. Of course that could be handled in HA, but is not practical when one has to redo the import often. It affected the staff names and the order of staves. That fix left some bugs which I couldn't get fixes nor really work around. Myriad fixed that since it was due to the new file structure on Encore 5. Import works generally very well from 4.5 - and initially it did not work at all with V5. I'm using Windows and made imports from 4.5 and Version 5 (no difference seen between the various releases).

The alternative flow would be advised to save the license of PDFtoMusic Pro (quite more expensive than the basic PDFtoMusic), having already the license of Harmony Assistant. MYR opened by Harmony Assistant, export as xml.
